How do I cure these devastating garden diseases?

Posted on 09 February 2010 by Sarah

I have a little problem with my garden. The fruits on my tomato plants are rotting from the bottom and the leaves are curling up. The bottom of the tomatoes are black and some have little tiny parasites that look like tiny scorpions. I suspect it’s blossom end rot. My peas are turning yellow and dying going from the root up. Lastly, my cucumbers are dying in a very similar way to the peas. Please help me recognize these diseases and how to cure them.

he is right, you have blossom end rot. when you plant your tomatoes,go to a fertilizer store(not lowes or home depot)a specialty fertilizer store and ask for calcium nitrate by the pound and use 2 tsp.per hole with the plant. on your other veggies you may have blight or fungal problems. do not plant in the same hole again.

You most certainly have blossom end rot. This can be fixed by adding calcium to the soil. The fastest way would be to go to a garden center and purchase a special fertilizer for tomatoes. Look at the content analysis on the side of the container and ensure it has a high amount of Calcium, usually 5%. In the fall/winter you should place all of your egg shells in your garden and till them under, helping to add calcium to your soil so you won’t have the blossom end rot next year.
